2001 Season Opening - Matt Races with G&W Team!

I usually start by telling you "I’ve got a lot to tell you, so settle back", this time it is no different. There is one exception, the news is all good. Finally!!

Matt did not participate in the last three races of the Speedvision series because:

1. The car was in no better shape to race than before, (the test day only corrected the handling of the car, but not the engine problems).

2. It would have been a waste of money to make those three trips to the West coast and DNF again.

3. There was also no way to catch up to the leaders and make a decent showing.

So, being the bright fellow Matt is, he put an end to this no win situation. He contracted with G & W Motorsports from Waynesboro, Virginia, and will be sharing a Porsche GT3R in the 2001 Grand-American GT series. G & W Motor sport was the Grand American Road Racing Association 2000 GT Champions!! If I seem pretty excited, it’s because I am!!!!!!!!

We have a link to their web site -- just click on G & W Motorsports in the navigation bar on the left of this page! You'll find plenty of photos here and there, too. You will feel like you are at the current race, or if you were at the race, you’ll be able to relive it—photography is a miraculous thing. I am SO proud to be Matt’s buddy and official camera!! I better spruce up my appearance (not that I wasn’t awesome before), just so that Matt will be as proud of me as I am of him!

Our first race will be the 24 hours of Daytona, February 1-4. These races will all be endurance races, meaning they will all be 6 to 24 hours in length. Here’s the rest of the schedule, so you will be able to prepare your favorite food and drink and get ready to enjoy all the excitement:

  • 2/1-4 Daytona 24 hr.
  • 3/1-4 Homestead Nextel 250
  • 4/ 18-21 Phoenix Sun Automotive 200
  • 5/ 18-20 Watkins Glen 6 hours
  • 5/ 24-28 Lime Rock

  • 7/ 5-8 Road America 500
  • 8/ 2-5 Trois Rivieres

Wait till you get a load of the car Matt will be driving!! Remember the saying, "You can’t tell a book by its cover"? Well, hang on to your lens cap, this one looks like it has a disease! I think it’s called the "Winner’s Pox" It’s something like "Chicken Pox" but less itchy and a lot more FUN. What do you think? You can still e-mail me at bert@broadband-speed.com. Let’s get ready to rock and roll—this should be quite a year!!
